Yesterday was the first REAL snow day in the Austin area since 1984! I remember making a snowman in our front yard as a kid. Man was it fun to see all that snow again. However, driving in it for the first time was quite distracting as I'd look up and ask 'where does this stuff come from?!' Yes, a little silly, but it's really amazing. Hey, I haven't seen the stuff since I was what, 7, ok? (So le' me lone.) And even then, I didn't get to see it falling. I awakened to the wonderfully white powder covering our yard.
Check out the kids' playscape. At times there would be these big, fluffy snowflakes. Ok, I admit it, one hit me by my lips and I totally ate it. At least I hope that was a snowflake.
I know they say that St. Augustine grass goes dormant in the winter, but that grass looks very dead to me. Poor grass. Poor tropical trees we planted. Our backyard is a wondeful Congo-like jungle (minus the gorillas and flesh eating plants) during the summer, I hope it comes back to us.
Anyway, today I watched the snow melt off the roof of my neighbors house. The snowman across the street is still hanging in, I'm happy to report. I wonder if that was it for the 'wintery mix' for us, or if we'll get just one more? I'd be ok with that.
